Kirk Dominguez began photographing bands in 1985 working for Flipside magazine. He documented the “Post Hardcore” wave of underground music in California. Shooting thousands of bands he amassed an enormous collection of never before seen images of some of the most legendary bands we know today.
Bands like Fugazi, Nirvana, Bikini Kill, Danzig, Sonic Youth St. Vitus, Agnostic Front, (the) Melvins, The Dwarves, Gwar and so on. As they were marking their mark, Kirk Dominguez was there to document it.
Inspired by the works of his predecessors like Edward Colver and Glen Friindman, Kirk was out every night shooting relentlessly and capturing bands live at their rawest and earliest stages of their careers. Many of these bands went on to major label success dubbed as grunge by the media despite their humble punk beginnings. Though Kirk’s poignant imagery we can see the early developing stages of some of the 80/90s most influential counter culture figures.
